Babylights and balayage
We do highlights and balayage, and our speciality is babylights.
- BabylightsVery fine highlights. Because each piece is so fine, the lighter colour blends softly into your own. Your roots grow in without an obvious line. Easy to look after.
- BalayageLighter colour painted onto the hair by hand, for a soft, graduated look.
How we work
Before we start, we ask about your hair’s history. Earlier colour or bleach, from a salon or from a box, changes how hair lightens. If your hair has had dark colour before, we test first whether highlights can be done and whether you are fine with the result, and then we start.
We work mostly with foils, and freehand as well. Highlights take one and a half to two hours, babylights four to six, balayage three to six.
A bond builder goes into every bleach.
As hair gets lighter, it passes through warm, yellow shades. A toner adds pigment to soften that warmth. Whether you have one is up to you, and we adjust it to what you want and to your budget. If you skip it, you may need a colour-correcting shampoo at home, which we routinely suggest.
Balayage is priced within the same range as highlights. A few highlights, such as a frame around your face or a few on the inside, are priced at the bottom of that range. More detail and thicker hair cost more.
At home: what we recommend
For lightened hair in heat, humidity and pools.
- Your first washYou can wash straight away, though we’d wait a day or two.
- Purple shampoo, not too oftenIf your highlights start to look warmer, use a purple shampoo about once every week or two, and your usual one the rest of the time. Used at every wash, it can leave a lilac tint.
- After a swimChlorinated pool water roughens the surface of your hair. Wash it out straight after a swim, or wear a swim cap.
- A trim when the ends splitThe ends of lightened hair split more easily, so we’d trim them once you can see splits. More in our guide on how often to trim hair.
- Coming back for highlightsWe’d suggest six months, or even a year, before the next ones.
